Frequently Asked Questions

1. I have an induction ring, what products can I use?
A. Because induction only takes place when a ferrous metal cooking vessel closes the magnetic field. The generation of heat stops immediately when the cooking vessel is removed from the hob. · Cast iron, enamelled steel and special stainless steel for induction are all compatible. · Copper, ceramic, earthenware, glass, aluminium and non-magnetic stainless steel are not compatible with induction cooking. · You can test the suitability of pans for induction cooking by placing a magnet onto the base of the vessel; if the magnet sticks to the base of the vessel it is suitable for induction cooking providing the base is flat and smooth. · For maximum efficiency, the diameter of the cooking vessel should be as close as possible to the diameter of the heat zone being used. Using well-adapted cooking vessels saves energy as well as shortening cooking times.

2. Can I dishwasher knives ?
A. Most knives state they are dishwasher safe, however we would strongly recommend that you simply wash your blades after use and dry immediately. This will help to prolong the life of your knife and help to prevent the blade from becoming blunt prematurely. Prolonged exposure in the dishwasher with high heat can lead to handles eventually cracking or warping.

3. Can serrated knives be sharpened?
A. As a general rule NO

4. What does grade 18/10 Stainless Steel mean?
A. Regarded as highly durable and practical for cutlery and pots and pans, 18/10 is a chromium alloy steel with 18% chrome and 10% nickel, for optimum hardness and stain resistance. It was invented in Sheffield early in the last century and is almost immune from corrosion, acids and strong detergents. We suggest washing your stainless thoroughly by hand or in your dishwasher before using for the first time. To keep it looking good whilst almost immune from stains do not neglect it totally. Acids, vinegar or eggs if not removed shortly after use may stain, so wash and dry the items thoroughly.

5. What accessories should I use with non-stick pots and pans?
A. For most non-stick surfaces we recommend the use of plastic, wooden or melamine utensils. However, some enamelled surfaces will withstand the use of metal accessories and the whole of the Jensen range of fat free pans are capable of use with metal implements.
